So your probably looking at the title of this and thinking, what the heck is this gonna be about? What does that mean? The more attune to Christ and God’s plan in your life you are, the bigger blip your going to be on Satan’s screen. Your level of engagement with your faith directly correlates with your importance to the evil one. There are two figures in today’s gospel that were probably weighing heavily on Satan back then. The first is Mary of Bethany. Here is a poor woman, pouring her only possession of worldly worth all over the feet of Jesus. If she wasn’t poor before she certainly was after she gave away a perfume worth “300 days wages”. Sure enough, the devil speaks up immediately through Judas by complaining and questioning her and Jesus about it. See, Mary did exactly what we are supposed to be doing. We are supposed to be giving Jesus everything we have. Our life, our love, our time, and our hope. If we are doing that Jesus will use us to bring other people to Him. Just look at the second character in the gospel, Lazarus. The fact that Lazarus has been raised from the dead is bringing people to Christ. Lazarus is allowing his life to exemplify Christ love and mercy to others. The gospel even reads, “ and the chief priests plotted to kill Lazarus too because many of the Jews were turning away and believing in Jesus because of Him.” Wow. What a compliment. Lazarus had allowed His life to become such a testimony to Christ that people wanted him dead. Not just people, the devil. My question to everyone this week, myself included, is are we living our lives in that way? Are we giving everything we have like Mary in order to be a Lazarus type witness for Jesus? That is what we are called to this Holy Week thru today’s readings. Are we going to be the example of Christ that God talks about today in Isaiah when he says “ I formed you to open the eyes of the blind, to bring prisoners out of confinement, and from the dungeon, those who live in darkness.” I guarantee if we fulfill that call, we will be more than just a blip on the devil’s radar. God Bless!!
