HOT NEWS :: St. Leo’s Lunch Now Open

Catholic Men's LuncheonCalling All Men. Get out to St. Louis Catholic Church each Tuesday for an exciting time of fellowship and learning. Weekly, men gather for a $5 meal and an entertaining keynote topic of our Catholic faith.

This lunch is an hour packed social that you can enjoy during your Tuesday’s and you are encouraged to bring a friend. With start-up time of 11:45 for serving lunch and the keynote speaker starting at 12:00 sharp, you can plan your day’s activities knowing that the lunch and talk will be over by 12:30. Anyone not in a hurry may hang around and socialize with others, after that time.

The keynote talks on our Catholic Faith are a great way of keeping up on your theology, prayer and spirituality. Even more, it is a great way to evangelize your faith. Invite a friend, co-worker, or family member, who might need a re-charge on being Catholic or a introduction to Catholicism if they are thinking of joining the Church.

Deacon Jeff of the Catholic Cafe is a regular speaker at the St. Leo’s Lunch. For a look at some past talks of this lunch series, check out the website for St. Leo’s Lunch and consider registering for the next upcoming event. http://stleoslunch.com/

Father and Sons

Father and SonMen’s Morning of Spirituality is around the corner.  The excitement of Curtis Martin coming and being the keynote speaker is growing,   another dynamic homily will be shared by our  Bishop , the Most Rev. J. Terry Steib, S.V.D., and a Church filled with hundreds of men will be ringing with songs of praise.

So ask yourself!

“Wouldn’t it be great if my son(s) were here with me?” … or … “Wouldn’t it be great if my father came with me?”

Father, Son, Sons, Father-in-law, Son-in-law, uncle, nephew, best friend,… the list goes on, as to who might share MMOS with, and create a bond for that person, that will lead to an inspirational relationship with Christ.

Here is a short quote from our team leader of the MMOS 7 committee;

I am excited to be the team lead for the Catholic Church of the Incarnation for the upcoming Men’s Morning of Spirituality. I attended my first event last year and brought one of my son’s. It was an uplifting encounter with Our Lord and was the catalyst that brought my son back to the church. He has since inspired his younger brother and got him on fire for the church. This year, all four of my sons will be attending and the beautiful thing is that my two oldest boys are engaging their two younger brothers explaining why they need to be there. My hope is that all men will bring their sons and that all young men will bring their dads and we put one thousand men in the seats of our beautiful church.

Pax Christi,
Steve

Please consider reaching out and asking your father or son, nephew, uncle, or best friend to attend the upcoming Men’s Morning of Spirituality. It might make a huge difference in their lives, effecting their environment, as well as yours.

Weekend Retreat for Fishers of Men

Fishers of Men Catholic Retreat

The Weekend Retreat sponsored by the Fishers of Men will take place January 27 – 29.This will be the second annual retreat for the Fishers of Men and we look forward to a full house.

Our retreat them this year is:
Created in God’s Image: Becoming Who You Are Called to Be YOU are God’s work of art! What else can you be if you are created in God’s image. That is a tremendous realization – one which seems beyond our comprehension. Imagine how differently life would be if we truly realized how precious and valuable we are to God.

Our retreat theme, based on psalm 139, will offer an opportunity for you to reflect on this wonderful gift from God and what its implications are for your spiritual journey.

If you came last year, we look forward to being with you again. If it has been a while since you have been on retreat why not make this the year to come to Our Lady Queen of Peace for the weekend. Amazing things happen on retreat weekends!

A reservation form is on back of this letter. Please return it at your earliest convenience to reserve your room. You may also register online at: http://cdom.org/olqp/olqpweekend.htm

This retreat is open to all men in the diocese. Don’t come alone. Invite someone you know to come with you.

Sincerely in Christ,

Sister Eileen Fucito,CP

Are You Curious About Numbers?

Catholic Numbers

Catholic Population in Relation to New & Old Media

CARA (Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate) has a blog that continually shares numbers about Catholic populations, in comparisons to media. The latest blog post from CARA has some interesting numbers to reveal and shed light as to what is going on in the United States, as well as Canada.

The Catholic Press Association (CPA) commissioned CARA to do a study on Catholics and their usage of different types of media; radio, television, print and digital (Internet). The poll taken had four groups, with variations of age; pre-Vatican II , Vatican II, post-Vatican II, and  Millennials. The blog post itself (Click Here) shares a shortened version of the full study, which you can download as a PDF of the full study by visiting the CARA blog post, “New Catholics, New Media: More ‘Bread and Circus’ than Eucharist.”

For a few short examples,

  • The poll did show only 52% of Catholics particularly pay attention to National Catholic Media
  • Pre-Vatican II (born before 1943) had the highest average for following Catholic pages/ post on Facebook (WOW)
  • Vatican II ( born 1943 to 1960) had the highest average of listening to Catholic radio or CDs
  • Post-Vatican II (born 1961 to 1981) didn’t rank highest in any of the charts shared on the blog but did tie Vatican II in the category of watching spiritual or religious video online
  • Last but not least, ranking the highest in reading content from websites and blogs —  Millennials (born 1982 and above)

You will see statistics on some of the well known National Catholic publications; Catholic Digest, Maryknoll, Liguorian, Our Sunday Visitor, and the Family Digest.

To get the full short story, visit the blog post, or if you are really into crunching numbers and counting percentages, download the full report available as a PDF on the blog post.
